NATHANIEL T. GREEN

I've been researching this side of my mother's tree for three years.  Also book is in the works.  It's been fun, it's been tense, and it's been enlightening.  Most of my mother's generation never talked about their ancestors.  That could be they didn't know anything about them.  Whatever the case may be, I feel, they lost out on knowing where their ancestors originated from.  So here is a start, maybe you are related.

Nathaniel T. Green b.Apr 1822 NY  d.  after 1900 The Dalles, OR
     m.  abt. 1847 NY  Sarah Bessey(Bessie)   b. 1826 NY
children:  Ira Willis  b. 1 Jul 1847 NY  d. 21 May 1929 Churchill Co, NV  m. 21 Mar 1864  Adams Co, IA  Melissa Jones
Sarah   b. 1851 NY  d. 15 Mar 1912 Clackamas Co, OR  m. 24 May 1867 Adams Co, IA William Way Davis
                Elmer T.   b. Dec 1855 IL   d. 27 Mar 1931 Yakima Co, WA  m. 1883 OR  Mary Burlingame
                Ezra   b. 1856 IL           d.    (?)    m. 10 Jul 1881 Montgomery Co, IA  Malinda Jane Cole
Nathaniel m. Melissa Davis 12 Mar 1867 Adams Co, IA
children:   Edward   b.abt 1869 IA
                 Thomas   b. Mar 1870  d. (?)   m. 1 Jan 1893 Norton Co, KS  Ursula Eibert
Nathaniel m. Clarissa A. Barnes 19 Jan 1873 Freemont Co, IA
children:  Charles Daniel   b.10 Dec 1873 KS  d. 13 Jan 1929 Koochicking Co, MN  m. 1 Nov 1895 Guthrie Co, IA   Ida Viola Wood
                George W.   b.11 Feb 1880 KS  d. (?)   m. 1914 Guthrie Co, IA  Flora M. Whipple
                Baxter Foster  7 Sep 1877 KS   d. 12 May 1955 W. Des Moines, IA   m.  8 Mar 1902 IA  Mona Johnson
                Elijah   b. 23 Feb 1876 KS  d. 6 Nov 1951 Koochicking Co, MN  m. 1899 IA  Alice Stoddard
                Ceader  b.22 Feb 1884 KS     d. (?)        m. 1903 IA Minnie L. Titus

Now the fun begins weaving my story about Nathaniel and his wives and children.  Did I say it was my story?  Actually it's Nathaniel's story but it's my rendition, with facts of course,  of how it all began and ended.

Until then...........................

KATIE

This is short and sweet but I am working on the novel or should I say novella.  Can't make up my mind yet.  Katie will be finished soon.  If you think of it shout a word of encouragement.........life happens........and so does children bringing their children over for babysitting.  And of course grandma can't say no.

Also working on the novel or maybe novella of my great great grandfather.  I really wanted to get that one done before the big family reunion in Jun 2012.  Really need to tickle the keys and get to working on that one too.

Sometimes I think I have adult ADD......can't focus.  Oh, maybe that is old timers disease.  This next year is the year!

Working, working, working,

Until then...................................

THOMAS JORDAN

I think I have posted before that Catherine Eberle was Indian Kate from the famed Black Hawk war in 1832.  What you don't know about her is that when she escaped from the fighting at Bad Ax and found her way down the Mississippi, it was Thomas Jordan that found her and her companion.  His name is unknown and after he was nursed back to health by the Jordan family, he rejoined his people.  That is if he ever found his people.  Katie, as she was more affectionaly known, was taken in by the Jordan family and remained there until she married Probus Eberle.

The following is the Jordan family:

JOSEPH FISHNICK

This last name ties my families together:  Wyburn, Fishnick, Eberle, and Blaul.
I cannot leave out the name of Thomas Jordan because without him and his wife Mary AnnWhiteside there wouldn't be an Indian Kate, otherwise known as Catherine Jordan Eberle.  If he hadn't been there to take "Katie" in she would have either died in the massacre at Bad Axe, or been captured along with other family members and taken to a reservation to live out her life.  Perhaps marry another Sauk Indian, have many children, and fade into the annuals of time.

Joseph Fishnick m. Pauline Ott
childen:  Fred  b. 1859 WI;  Frank  b. 1864 WI;  Mary A. b. 1856 WI; Josephine  b. Nov 1862 WI.

Now you know the main families of my story.  The next thing to do is put the story together.  Until then.............

OBITS

I've read some of the other genealogists that have regularly posted obits and thought why not.  I'm always looking for an obit on my ancestors so why not help others out.  Of course these will be more current but you never know when you might be helping someone out.  Really, that is what we are here to do anyway.

I will be posting every week from the Sunday San Antonio Express News in Texas.  Sorry folks I just get the Sunday paper.

PROBUS EBERLE

Well here we are again trying to tie families together to get answers.  We will never really know the everyday life of our ancestors, but then again it's kind of fun figuring out what went on.  Who were their neighbors, what did their house look like, or what church they went to.  Did they go to church?

I'm not real clear about Probus Eberle except that he migrated from Kappelwindeck, Baden, Baden, Germany.  He married Indian Kate Jordan (again another story) and died 1890 in E. Dubuque, Illinois.  I will have to delve into his life a little more and report back.

Probus was born 10 Nov 1821 and died 18 Oct 1890.  He married Kate, as she was more affectionaly known, about 1858 in E. Dubuque, Illinois.

OTTO BLAUL

I was trying to figure out why Alfred Wyburn was in Austin, Minnesota when he met my mother Annabell.  As far as I knew he didn't have any relatives there.  So what was he doing there?

The only thing I could come up with was..........and this is only my opinion...........or rather my take on this encounter.  Alfred's brother in law was Erwin Blaul who had been adopted by Frank and Ida Fink in Dubuque, Iowa.  My mother worked for a couple, house cleaning, babysitting, etc, by the name of Rose and Bub Fink.  I've tried and tried to connect but so far no luck.

Erwin's parents lived in St. Paul, Minnesota.  His father was an agent for the railroad.  Suppose, just suppose Alfred and Erwin went together, stopped in Austin to see relatives (Finks) then headed north to St. Paul to visit family.  Sounds reasonable..........

Now for the rest of the story.............In 1926 there was a train robbery in St. Paul and the men that were indicted for their roll in it:  Danny Hogan, Frank W. Sommer, who was a former St. Paul police chief and secret service official, and George E. Blaul, former agent at South St. Paul and Reuben C. Lilley, alias "Black" Carter.  (information taken from Newspaperarchives.com)

December 5, 1928 St. Paul gang figure slain blared all over the papers when Danny Hogan got in his car and when he started the engine it burst into flames.  A bomb had been planted for this St. Paul restaurant proprietor and well known figure in the Twin Cities underworld.  He died shortly before 9 p.m.  Among some of the other well know figures in the mob was Dapper Dan and Dillinger.

Maybe Erwin and Alfred were making trips north to check on family or maybe, maybe they knew of some of the things that went on.  In the 40's Alfred stayed a couple of nights in jail because of receiving stolen property, but that's another story.

Otto Blaul was born abt 1849 in Bavaria, Germany.  He arrived in US 9 Jun 1866.  He married Agusta b. abt 1847 in Iowa.

WILLIAM WYBURN

I've been wandering about and finally decided it was time to put a few things out there.  Genealogy wise that is.  I am a writer, wife, mother, a doer of all things for everyone that needs something done.  Ladies you know what I'm talking about.  I am also a genealogist.  I've been searching for my dead relatives for about thirty years.

Let me back up a bit, say about thirty years ago.  My children were going to a four room school house and they were ready to close their doors and move everyone to their newly built school.  They were looking for someone to write a short story about the school and some of the people that went there over the years.  I volunteered, or rather no one else wanted to do it.  That started the quest to find my own roots.  And I really enjoyed putting the history together, especially interviewing some of the older residents that went to the school.  I was bitten!

Now fast forward.......raising children.......moving about over the years..........and a divorce put my quest on hold until about fifteen years ago when I activily engaged in finding out where I came from.  And let me tell you right now don't go looking if you can't take surprises!

I knew my mother had divorced my biological father but I didn't know the whole story.  I grew up with a wonderful step father but wondered about my real father all my life.  My mother would never tell me anything about him, only that he was a nice man and that he probably still lived in Minnesota.  I'm here to tell you that I think by the time I turned fifty she should have at least told me a little bit more.  Just saying.....

Anyway my mother passed away before I found the divorce papers and found out she had had an affair and from that affair she had a child, and that child's birthdate was mine.  My father petitioned for the divorce.  Now that was a kicker!  I now have another father, a biological father, and he was named in the divorce papers.  That helped except they used a nickname for his first name but his last name was Wyburn.  That was the only saving grace as that is not a common name.

I believe I found that man but by the time I found him he had already passed away from an accident in 1957.  But I have done quite a bit of history on this man so will throw it out there.  Maybe there is someone else that can fill in the blanks.

CHASING RABBITS

I have come to the conclusion that I am again chasing rabbits.  I can't seem to focus on one thing and see it through.  Oh come on now, you know what I mean.  I read my e-mails and think of something I should have done so I go do it in the middle of reading the mail.  Then as I'm working on that I remember something else that needs to be done, and so on, and so on.

Someone told me that was a sign of getting old.  I refuse to believe that.  Just because I'm pushing the big seven zero, and I might add pretty hard, that doesn't mean I'm getting old.  You are only as old as you feel.  Enough said!

As I go through and find one ancestor I come across another one.  So I have to check that one out to make sure it's one of mine.  Oops, chasing another rabbit.

Well I am trying hard to put together the big Green reunion for next June.  Things are looking good but there is always something else that comes up.  Yep, got to get the t shirts ordered.  I already have the design and I'm quite pleased with it.  It's a tree with Nathaniel Green written on the trunk.  His children are big leaves in the tree with their names on the leaves.  Not too orignal but fitting.

Just trying to find out if my Nathaniel is related to the General Nathanael Greene born in Rhode Island in 1742.  I read an obit of my Nathaniel's son, Ira, that leads me to believe he throught his father was related.  I would really like to find out, for sure, by the time the reunion rolls around.  Going to be so much fun!  Looking forward to it.  Let me know if you are related.

Until then............................

STOP THE WORLD......I WANT TO GET OFF

At least for awhile to catch my breath.  It seems like the world is spinning faster and faster each day and I don't ge anything done.  Is it like that for you too?  At the end of the day do you ask yourself "What did I do today?"

Each one of us will pack everything we can into one day.  House, work, children, cooking, errands, and the list goes on and on.  Everything has to be perfect.  Our children have to be perfect, we have to have that perfect body, the perfect house,  and the perfect job. What happened to the days we sat on the front porch in the evening and waved to our neighbors, invited them in and had a cup of coffe for a chat?  Do we even know our neighbors?  Probably not, each of us is going in our own direction and never passing one another.

My writing has taken a back seat and yes house work too.  What am I doing???  I'm busy but I guess I'm busy at the wrong things.  It's time to take assessment.  I'll get back to you on that!

Until then.....................

DNA AND GENEALOGY

This DNA stuff is driving me up the wall.  What I'm saying here is that it's mind boggling.  Well my mind can't quite grasp it.  I've had the mtdna and the Family Finder tests done.  So alright, the person I'm looking for has not has their DNA done, I get that.  But with more and more that have had theirs done I'm not coming up with a close enough match to me to say I belong to that line.

Let me back up here.  My mother had an affair when she was married.  This was during WWII when our servicemen were gone for long periods of time.  When you think about it not much has changed down through the ages.  And people are people, things happen.  Anyway, she had a child from this affair but I carry the surname of the man she was married to.

Now you are asking me how do I know this.  No one said a word, it was carried to their graves.  When I got my mother's divorce papers (I was three when they divorced) it was stated by her husband that she had the affair and a child was born from that affair.  The birthday that was listed was mine.  Need I say more.

Every time I asked my mother about my father she gave me vague answers like oh he was nice or I guess he still lives in Minnesota.  Not the answers I wanted.  I wrote to him once and he was nice enough when he answered my letter.  He touched on surface subjects like I'm married, nice job, I have a son, things like that.

So back to DNA.  I wanted to know if this man named in the divorce papers was really my father.  So far I'm getting 3rd, 4th, and 5th cousins.  And I'm not matching any names they have listed that they are researching.  It's so frustrating!

Maybe I'm not reading it right.  But with persistence I will find out, somehow.  If you are having the same problem or one like it keep working.

Until then....................

ANOTHER HOT DAY IN TEXAS

You would think with all this hot weather I'd be at the computer just working my little fingers to the nub.  Well like most everyone else the day goes by and I can't remember what I really accomplished.  The pool becons me..........and I've left poor Katie wandering the wilds of Illinois looking for her parents after the battle.  And then there is Nathaniel still google eyed over Sarah.  Still bumbling when he see her.

I've been putting together all the material for the Genealogy of Nathaniel Green so it will be ready for the first time family reunion next year.  That in it's self is a feat.  Trying to get everything into the computer, which I might add, I'm not that smart working on the computer!  I'm still learning.

Well I do have a date to look at early days of the big city of Cibolo and get those in order for the new Cibolo history book that is in stage ONE.  We've been compiling information, speaking to the older generation, and mapping out the city.

Too many projects at the same time.  I heard a phrase long ago, simply said, yard by yard is hard, inch by inch is a cinch.  You bet.

Unitil then....................

MORE WORK THAN I CAN HANDLE

I didn't realize I haven't kept my blog up to date.  I've been so busy.  Sure just like everyone else the week goes by and you ask yourself what did I accomplish this week?  Wow......not sure at this point.

I've been asked to help with the history of the town I live in.  I had been looking into it long before I was even asked.  I like to know about the place I'm living.  Who was here before me?  What kind of activities did they do beside work the fields from sun up to sun down?  What did it look like before all the subdivisions took over?  So many questions.  Where are the answers?

Then besides trying to keep up my two blogs, yes I do have two.  I don't do things one at a time.  It seems I like to be busy, pushed to the limit.  I am putting together a big family reunion next year and hope to have the book finished on that one side of the family.  That's a big feat in it's self.  And poor Katie, I'm trying to put that novel together.  Slow but sure.  Sometimes I feel like I'm leaving Katie wandering, but no wait, she finally find the Jordan family.

Now this week I'm off to the Pacific Northwest in search of where some of my ancestors lived and died.  I've found quite a few of them so I would like to get their death certificates and then find their graves.  Got to get pictures of the head stones, that is if they have one.  I would just like to find where my great, great, grandfather is buried.  Just to put him to rest in the novel anyway.

It's been a wonderful journey following their lives from child to adult.  Then watching their children go off in all different directions.  Can't wait to get my hands on the 1940 Federal Census next year.  Me and about a thousand other people researching their ancestors!

So until then...................

KATIE

I know I've asked you to wander with me as I trace Katie's footsteps.  I've found more information about Indian Kate.  Thanks to my cousin in Wisconson (without her I would not have found out who I am).  OOPS that's another story.  I'll talk about that later.

Anyway, back to Katie.  Such a small little girl left to wander alone in search of her family.  The Black Hawk War took place in 1832.  It left Katie an orphan until the Thomas Jordan family took her in.

Whoa....there I go again jumping way ahead of myself.  I do have a habit of doing that.

The Asakiwaki (Sauk) and Meshkwahkihaki (Mesquakie/Fox) are Algonquin-speaking people originally from the northeastern United States.  Asakiwaki means "people of the yellow earth" and Meshkwahkihawi means "people of the red earth".

Oral history says the tribe originated hear the Saint Lawrence Seaway in Canada and moved west towards Michigan and Wisconson.

Everything was peaceful for the Sauk Indian clan in 1831 and early 1832.  Lead by Chief Black Hawk they lived along the Mississippi River across from Dubuque, Iowa.  Near  Saukenuk at the mouth of the Rock River where it empties into the Mississippi.  They came back from their hunting trip west of the Mississippi to find the white man living in their lodges.

Like any child Katie watched over her little brother while watching her mother cook meals and make their blankets.  Katie had at least three older sisters and a couple of brothers.  There may have been more but records are a bit fuzzy about that.

History lesson done, so for the rest of the story, until then................

TIME RUNNING OUT

Sometimes I do feel like time is running out.  I get another day older, so much to do each day, and not enough time to sit at the computer and look.  Yes, look for more information.

It seems like you get one piece of evidence and after you pursue that you find another, then another.  You can't give up then.  You have to keep going.  It's like a worm being dangled in front of a fish then pulled back each time the fish approaches it.  Keep going, keep seeking, keep digging.

So much has been added to the web sites now it seems endless.  Ancestry keeps adding more each day, Cyndi's list has been going strong for at least ten years and she keeps adding more information every day too.  If you have ancestors that migrated from New England the American Ancestors is a good web site to look through too.  Ancestry.com and American Ancestors does have a fee but Cyndi's list does not.

Now that I've told you those avenues there is that old standby way.  Word of mouth.  Phone calls to relatives.  Jog their brains.  Ask them "Do you remember Aunt Jane, etc."

Give them food for thought.  They might not remember at the time you ask the question but it will get them to thinking and you might be surprised when they call you back and give you that worm.  You never know until you try it.

Another wonderful avenue if you are in the town you are researching go to the library.  The library is your best friend.  Most of them have a small genealogy section, or even someone that wrote something about the town you are looking into.  In fact I'm off to the local library this morning to look for information.

So until then..........................

WANDERING MIND

I'm slow at writing my pages.  You ask why???  Well I have this problem.  I can't help myself.  I start working on a page then my mind wanders and I stop what I'm doing and start looking again for more information about my ancestors.

Something will trigger my thinking and then I have to look at another avenue to try to find answers.  My brother has said I would make a good detective.  Well I want to know the answers.  Sometimes it consumes me........and I want to know more.  I want to get into the head of my ancestor.  Why did he move on?  Why did he go that way instead of the other way?  Just like a small child always asking mommy why.

I never would have thought I would have this drive to want to know more.  Maybe it's because it's about my family.  Where ever the drive comes from, I have it....... bad.

Thus far there have been times where the information fell into my lap.  Laptop that is, while I was searching for something else.  Then when I followed up on the information, I found it to be true.  What a wonderful surprise.  You ask why do I have to follow up.  Well let me tell you.  When I first started out looking into my ancestors past I was told by a genealogist always follow up with the paper work.  Don't take someones word for it.  Put that piece of paper in your hand that tells you yes, you are correct.

A good bit of advice I've followed and I will continue.  So it's off to look in another direction.

Until then.................

DIGGING DEEPER

Well here we are again.  Still digging.  I push away from the computer, done with a project and on to another, like fixing dinner, throwing a load of wash in the dryer, and so on.  But my mind is still thinking, thinking about the ancestor I was just looking for.

There is so much on the computer now, Ancestry puts something new on their web site each day, and so does Cyndi's List.  But there is still that brick wall.  I've been looking in cemeteries for the graves of my ancestors.  Their final resting place.  Most don't have head stones because they were too poor to afford one.  Their children went about their lives always thinking and wanting to put a stone there for their parent but, life happens.  It doesn't get done.

Then there are the genealogists that walk the cemeteries, take notes, make sure they have the grave listed in the right row, right lot, then put it on the web for all to see, and maybe find their ancestor.  But if your ancestor is buried in that cemetery and doesn't have a stone, well, you see where I'm going here.

That's when you engage the help of a genealogist in that state, county, and cemetery to look it up in the library for you.  Most libraries have a genealogy department.  Some small, like the one my husband and I found in Madison, NH.  It wasn't any larger than a six hundred square foot house but we found where my husband's great, great, grandmother was buried.  You would be surprised at that one person who lived in the area that wrote a small book on the history of the town.  There you have it.  Sometimes you have to go visit the area you are researching but what better way to take a vacation.  See the sights, walk the same fields your ancestors walked.

Until then.......................

THOSE ELUSIVE ANCESTORS

Another day of looking for those elusive ancestors.  I've been through every cemetery on line in the counties they lived in.  I know not every grave is listed as most people that put the information on line walks through the cemetery and makes note of the grave stone, name, and dates.  But if your ancestor didn't have a stone it was not recorded.

Now mind you our ancestors didn't start out being elusive.  No they, like us, went about their daily lives.  Going to work, cleaning house, raising children, farming, and moving about.  Yes, moving about.  If they would have stayed in one place, died in one place, and was buried in the local cemetery it would have made our job a lot easier.  Life is not that easy!

You say I'm being picky, well probably so.  Sometimes you run into brick walls and you have to think outside the box.  Hard to do for most of us because we were taught to color inside the lines.  Life isn't like that.  Circumstances happen, people move, take vacations, visit relatives, and just live their lives.  They didn't know there would be a relative down the road that wanted to know more about them.

I'm tying to put together as much information as I can so I won't go running about with no direction when I make my trip to the Pacific Northwest.  Yes, I'm on a mission to find the graves of my great, great, grandfather and his daughter.  I've narrowed it down, made all my notes, and I'm ready.  If all else fails go to the town, county, and state where your ancestor lived.  Check with the library.  Most libraries have a small genealogy section and someone is always willing to help you.  You'll be surprised with all the new friends you make.

Until then..................

KEEP ON LOOKING

Well my sister has given me an assignment.  Try to find information on her daughter's father.  All she has is a place of birth, date of birth, and parents.  Sometimes it's easier if you're looking for someone that was born one hundred years ago, not sixty years ago.  Not only is it sixty years ago but it's a very common name!

I've looked through the census for that state and county and I think I found who I'm looking for, but.  This is not easy.  Guess I'll have to keep you informed about this one.  Maybe you are having trouble with this also.

Now on to another dilemma.  I've been asked to help someone find his parents.  He was adopted, and through DNA we are related.  We are 2nd and 3rd cousins.  Oh yes, it was a closed adoption.

Now this could really get interesting as I really don't know who my biological father is either.  So you see what I'm up against.  Plus I've never dealt with adoptions.   What a challenge, but then I like challenges.

Another one I will have to keep you informed on.

Now the Green side of the family is going quite well.  I've found all the children of Nathaniel, where they lived, and where most of them died.  I haven't found where Nathaniel died yet though.  I have an idea but until I get that piece of paper in hand and know where he is buried, I do not know.  Got to have that paper trail, otherwise you have no way to prove what you are saying.

So until then...................

NEW GENEALOGY INFORMATION

It's been like a flood gate of information lately.  What it boils down to is do not give up.  Keep looking and eventually you will find the information you are looking for.  Slow and steady, each day at a time.

More and more people are looking to ancestry.com for their information but they forget about other important places to look.  Other than packing your suitcase, gasing up the car, and heading to where your ancestor lived, there is that age old way of seeking information.  Writing a letter.  Yes, paper, pen, envelope, and a stamp.

Of course there is an easier way.  Go to google, find the county your ancestor lived in, and start looking in their archives.  You would be surprised what you will find.  I have found the cemeteries where they were buried which also gave me dates.  From that you can write to the County Records and get a death certificate.

Sometimes the information you are looking for is not on that website but there is usually a contact person listed.  By that I mean you will find someone's name that is willing to look for information for you.  I've made new friends and found ancestors this way.

Which takes me back to my new information.  I am one step closer to my great, great, grandfather's daughter.  All roads now lead to her.  I can't believe I finally found her.

I have traveled and lived all over the United States and now when I find out where my ancestors lived I'm amazed.  Amazed because some of them lived in the same states, counties, and some even in the same town.  I wished I had started looking for these ancestors sooner, perhaps I would have been able to meet them.  Then again that is probably wishful thinking.

Well I'm off to locate more ancestors.  Nose to the ground, sniffing out the scent, eyes and ears open.

Until then.................

SPRING IS HERE

It's the first of May, it's been a hot April, so you'd think today would be a bit warm.  Maybe even a drop or two of rain.  The sky is over cast with clouds rolling by frequently.  Let me see now, April showers bring May flowers.  March was supposed to be windy.  If it comes in like a lion it goes out like a lamb, and vice versa.  Wrong!  This year everything is topsy turvy.

But it must be spring.  I put the hummingbird feeder outside my window and my little friend is back drinking like there is no tomorrow.  Every time I start to type I see his little wings fluttering while he is taking a sip of sweet nectar.

Then why am I cold.  I even went to my closet and exchanged my capri pants for levis, my light t-shirt for a long sleeved shirt plus a sweater.  The temperature dropped over night and I'm freezing.  Like I said the weather has gone crazy.  Tornados upon tornados have hit so many states in the south.  Earthquakes, tidal waves, raging wild fires.  Rivers in the midwest have expanded their banks until farms and whole towns are under water.

Well my friends my yard work is done so I'm going to stay inside and get my writing and researching caught up.  I'm not sure if I ever get caught up but I do give it the old heave ho and try.

Until then.....................

NEW VIGOR

What a strange title for today.  My life has been full of family and not much else so as you can see my blog has been sparse this month.  Between new great grandbabies being born, of course I have to visit, a husband that had a liver biopsy, and just the usual, I haven't been very good at updating.

But today I got a shot in the arm so to speak.  I received an e-mail from a lady that said she googled Nathaniel Green's name and she came up with the information I had posted.  Wow!  I am elated that someone found what I had put out there.  Especially from a branch of the family I had little information on.

I search and research my information to make sure it is correct before I post.  There is nothing more heart breaking to find out that you've done all this research and come to find out you do not have the right person.  Oh don't get me wrong I've done that.  I even litterally followed a family to Dubois, Wyoming and found out it wasn't my family.  I even took pictures of their graves.  But alas not part of my family.  It was a beautiful trip though.  My husband even said so!

It is with great joy to let everyone know I will be hosting the first ever Nathaniel T. Green family reunion.  Now this is the Nathaniel T. Green who was born abt. 1822 in New York.  He married the following women, Sarah Bessey (Bessie), Melissa Davis, and Clarissa Barnes.

The following are his children by these women:  Ira Willis, Sarah, Elmer T., Ezra, Thomas, Edward, Charles, Baxter, Elijah, George W., and Cedar.  If you think you are related to any of these children I would greatly appreciate your input.

Oh yes the book on Nathaniel is rolling and no I haven't forgotten Katie.  Working on that also.  My work is cut out for me for the rest of this year!

Until then...............

APRIL FOOL'S DAY

Another new month.  Wow how the time flys.  Today is my daughter's birthday.  My jokester.....and I'm awaiting the birth of her second grandchild, my fifth great grandchild.  I was really hoping for another April Fool baby.  In fact my little brother was born on April Fool's Day too.  Guess he was my mother's little joke.

All kidding aside I'm very anxious for the new baby.  Guess you could say so is her mommy, my granddaughter.  From all accounts she has been a very good mommy to her two year old daughter and I suspect she will be just as doting on her son as she has been on her daugher.  But I would have to caution her that boys are so much more different to raise than daughters!

Right now all you have to do is ask my other daughter about raising a boy and a daughter.  Last night she called and asked me what am I going to do with him.  Everyday is something new at school.  I'm at my wits end.

Well dear, they are all different.  You just have to find that perfect, or the right, thing that will stop them in their tracks when they are misbehaving.  Sometimes that takes a lot of give and take......as a mother of four girls and two boys would say.

All in all I can say I was blessed beyond my wildest dreams with the children I've raised.  There were only a few growing pains between all of them that put the gray hairs on my head.  None of us were given an instruction book when our babies were born, but if you are in step with the Lord, stay in His word, attend church regularly, and leave the lines of communication open between you and your children you've raised your family with His guidance.

Thank you Lord for your help all the way.

Until then............................

IT'S COMING TOGETHER

At least I think it's coming together.  My list for the family reunion is growing and I'm finding out new things.  By new things I'm finding family members I thought I'd never find.  Just a few more places to look and I've found all but one son.

It's amazing how I've been able to trace their long journey from coast to coast.  In this day and age we think nothing of it as we board a plane and fly half way around the world.  Or we jump in the car and drive for eight hours and we've gone at least 800 miles (of course that is if you have a wide open road, no cars, etc).  You get the picture.

Our ancestors thought they went a long distance when they traveled ten miles in a day.  They packed their wagons with all their possessions, hitched the team, and they were off.  Most walked beside the wagons to leave room for more of their goods.  Then you have to take in consideration there were no paved roads.  There were ruts, ravines, rivers, hills, mountains, and perhaps a robber or two, along with raiding Indians.

If you had a broken axle or wheel you were the one that fixed it.  You couldn't phone AAA to come and replace it.  A wagon could over turn and it would take many people to turn it right side again.  Sickness was another hitch in the trip.  Family members were buried along the way.  A simple mound of rocks were placed over the loved one.  In some cases if there was any wood nearby a make shift cross was made and pounded into the ground.  Most didn't know how to read or write so no name was etched in the wood.  Only the family and God knew who was buried there.

Yet our ancestors kept coming.  Stopping only long enough to sleep and make their meager meals before setting out again the next day looking for land.  Abundant, fertile, lush land where they could build their home, raise their families, and plant their crops.

Determination, perseverance, hard work, drive, endurance, grit, and patience were what our fore fathers were made of.  They pushed onward and settled the land so their generation could pass it on their generation and so on.

Oh my I'm getting ahead of myself again.  I've traced most of my ancestors from New York to the Oregon coast, stopping along the way to farm, raise children, and then push on.  So here we go again.....finding more information today.

Until then......................
